Home Indian Trips <<Previous Shimla Next>>
And so the journey continued...and continued...

A composited picture of one valley

stops to take a picture, while his driver, Bala watches on.

Some people decide to take the scenic seats!
The
alternative to road is to take a train. There is a mainline route from
Delhi to Kalka , which is at the end of the plains. You then transfer to a
narrow gauge train which goes all the way to Shimla. As this also takes
about 12 hours to complete, speed is not a factor in the choice. Though
you can do it overnight and sleep!
The line is unusual in that it has 103 tunnels, one of which in the photo above road level.
My brother Alex did this trip and you can see pictures at http://alexmorley.fotopic.net/c896542_121.html

Another interesting feature is the building techniques, some buildings are completed from top to bottom.
