Likir Monastery

Likir Monastery is also known as Klu_Khil, because of the coil shape of the hill it is on, reflecting the fact that the Naga King slept here, though elsewhere the meaning is defined as water spirit.  A Monastery has been here since 1088, but changed sects in 1470.  There are currently around 100 monks living here.  The Monastery also cares for a number of other smaller Monasteries within its district.

The golden Buddha has been built in the last few years and is seated, but not cross-legged, meaning that it is the Buddha of the Future.  It is about 9 metres tall.
