Home Indian Trips <<Previous Ladakh Next>>
A few other things spotted during our time in Leh.
As
well as the tea in the sacks this shop was selling some of the traditional coats
worn by the Ladakhi people.
These
ladies are wearing traditional costume of the area, what might be considered in
our terms 'the Sunday best'. During our visit there was a major festival
taking place and these ladies were probably on their way there.
This
is the city mosque which was built in 1661, at this time Emperor Aurangzeb,
ruled in Delhi and was threatening military action so King Deldan Namgyal built
it in an act of appeasement which avoided violence.
One
of the main road around Leh.
A
side road.

A stompa next to the entrance of another market area.
These
two young lads gave my boots a very fine polish, which had been getting very
dusty.

If you look in the picture above these two school boys can be seen walking along the road towards me. They saw me taking a picture of the boys polishing my shoes and wanted a picture taken too. At least the elder one did I don't think the younger one knew what to make of it.
