Home Indian Trips <<Previous Ladakh Next>>
The markets of Leh are not big but are interesting. The vegetable market was opposite our hotel but behind another row of shops so was entered by two narrow alleys top and bottom of the road. It took us a day or two to realise it was there as it was well hidden.

Each
stall was a bit like this. The shop keeper sitting within his stock ready
to serve you.

On one of the street corners there were a number of sellers of dried fruits, apricots are one of the main crops of the area, and are often sold sun dried. The nuts of the apricots are also used in various products like hand creams.

On another main street local ladies were selling vegetables. These are probably home grown in the villages on small holdings.

The vegetables all looked very fresh.
