This monastery is also known as Yung_dung Thara Ling or more popularly as Yuru. It is thought to date back to the 11th century and the monks belong to the Drigungpa sect, one of those who wear red hats. It is one of the larger monasteries that we saw.
It is said that the whole valley used to be a Lake and Mimagon an Arahat prayed for monastery to be built there. He offered votive water offerings to the Naga Serpent of the water causing the lake's water to be drained. The grains of corn offered to the water spirits then grew into the shape of a yung_dung (swastika), hence the name of the monastery when it was founded.
