India claim this as the highest motorable pass in the world, but it is some 300 metres lower than they say. There are higher passes in Tibet but difficulties of access make it hard to confirm. Whatever its true status it is still very high up over 5330m and was the highest point we reached. Again I could feel the change in altitude in the thinness of the air and the headache I got. There was also a more impressive view from here than at Chang La. Once more the army had an outpost, but they did have a little souvenir shop for the intrepid travelers as well.

The view northwards towards the Karakoram ranges.

A small shrine at the sight.
