While in Kolkata we stayed at The Sonar Hotel, which had some interesting architecture and gardens, compared to the standard business hotel, here are some photos to give a feel.

central area of the hotel had this large pond and individual tea houses.
The
weekend we were there coincided with the Bengali New Year and this decoration of
coloured rice and shells was made in the hotel entrance.
