Home Indian Trips << Previous Kolkata Next>>
After we had been to the memorial and had some lunch we decided to just drive around some of the centre of the city to get an overall feel of the place. So most of these pictures were taken from the car. Unfortunately I'm not sure what many of the buildings are used for, but you do get the sense of the British influence in the district.
Part
of the Writer's Building, that was the centre of commercial and colonial India
from 1777. The name is derived from the 'writers' or clerks of the British
East India Company. It is now used as State Government Offices.

The domed building is the General Post Office designed by the same architect as the Indian Museum, Walter Granville.
