Life on Board

This was the front half of the boat, where we spent the day time.  It was very comfortable, the roof provided plenty of shade, the windows and open front meant that a cooling breeze came through, and we could see all around us.

The speed was quite slow and steady, very relaxing.

This was looking to the rear of the boat, one of the crew members was having a siesta after lunch.

This was an afternoon snack of banana fritters, which were a local speciality. The bananas used must be a different variety than the ones were get at home because after cooking they were still quite firm and a rich yellow colour.

We had a very good cook who presented us with some very good local vegetarian, chicken and fish dishes.  Not fancy but very enjoyable, this was our spread at dinner.

We were not the only ones who enjoyed dinner that evening.  After dark a number of geckos came out and the light in the boat had drawn insects towards it.  We watched the geckos for a while they would stay quite still and then move very quickly to take their prey.  This one had just got hold of a small moth.

We were also visited by one or more bats that flew through the boat, they went very quickly and it took a while for us to realise what was happening.

Andy managed to capture some good pictures of them.

They scented out the fruit and would fly past take a few bites of banana and then fly off again.  This happened for a while and then we decided that they had had enough of our fruit so moved the plate next to the candle.  This confused them but they soon worked out where the plate had gone but were deterred from landing again because of the flame.
