The Diwan-i-Am was the area where the King would have public meetings with his subjects. The one in the fort is large and has over forty pillars to support the roof. It is also elaborately decorated with carvings.

This area of the fort is also higher than the previous courtyard and gave a good view over the route taken on the elephant ride.

We were not the only ones checking out the view.

From the courtyard you progressed into the private palace within the fort through the Ganesh Pol.

The Pol is a three storied gateway built in 1640. The top level has marble grills enabling women in purdah to be able to observe the activities talking place below. The gateway is elaborately painted with flowers, the paints were coloured with vegetable dyes. Above the central entrance is a picture of the Hindu God Ganesh.
