Birla Mandir

Also know as the Birla Lakshni Narayan Temple this is a modern addition to Jaipur built within the last 15 years.  It was built with donations from the Birla family and is made from white marble.

It is a Hindu temple but is welcoming to all faiths and this is illustrated in its architecture.  It has three roofs, on the left a Hindu version, in the middle, one from Buddhism and lastly a dome as used on Mosques.  Also around the temple are carvings of many historical and religious figures from many faiths.

On these pillars from left to right are St. Peter, Confucius, St. Anthony and Moses.

We could not take photographs inside, but under the Hindu roof there were larger than life-size figures of two Hindu Gods that were been dressed and decorated in fresh flowers by priests who were dressed in orange robes.  Around the walls insides were relief carvings depicting some of the epic tales from the Hindu texts.

There were also a number of stained glass windows.

The temple also has the distinction of being the first one built with incorporated air-conditioning, which was very carefully done as you could not tell just by looking.
