On our way to the spice farm we stopped at a couple of Hindu Temples. This temple is the largest one in Goa and has an impressive setting place on a low ridge in front of a forest with open rice fields in front of it. The Temple is dedicated to Durga, the consort of of Shiva. Sometimes she is called Parvati and is the Goddess of Peace. She intervened in an argument between Shiva and Vishnu. In the temple an idol of Durga is flanked by images of Vishnu and Shiva. The prefix of 'Shata' means peace.

Many temples in Goa have moved sites over the centuries due to invading forces. This temple is no exception and the current building was built in 1738.

When we visited it was harvest time.
