To make your way into the fort is quite a long walk, first along a gradual slope and then becoming more steep.

This
archway was in the third ring of walls. Note how there is a wall right
behind the opening, so invaders would have rushed in and been impeded by the
wall and vulnerable from defenders above. The route actually takes a turn
to the right.
The
elephant carving was to the left of the arch above.
Just
inside the gateway was this alcove, with a water storage pot set into it.
This would have been for guards defending the gate.
