Streets in Darjeeling

We spent a little time walking around the centre of Darjeeling, the roads are quite narrow and zigzag up and down the slope.  Between the roads there are steep footpaths, some with small shops and stalls perched there.  It was a vibrant place with lots of people but it was easy to walk around and felt very safe.  On the busiest streets though, with jeeps going past could get filled with fumes, and there was often an overriding aroma of diesel about.

Some of the roads have seen better days.

The chicken shop, had live chickens below the counter as is common here.  Well you want to know that your meat is fresh.
