The Road Home

After our stay at the resort we set off home after Sunday lunch, sad to leave a beautiful place and with the knowledge of the long journey ahead.  The air is much clearer than round Delhi, to the extent that one of our drivers who has only lived in Delhi was surprise by the number of stars he could see at night time.

Below are some shots Andy took from the car on our way back.  Including some that show the nature of the road repairs that were on going and caused some of the delays.  Unfortunately there were other roads that did not even look as though they were likely to get repaired in the near future.  In one town the residents and shopkeepers were out protest because of the poor state of the main road through the town.  It took a good half hour to get through that town, about 2 miles of road!  We took about 9 hours to return to Gurgaon.

The time we visited was during the sugar cane harvest season.  Many lorries were fully loaded and making their way to nearby processing factories.  They also caused some delays on single carriage roads, which most of them were.

Another crop being harvested, probably rice.

Some of the traffic negotiated on narrow roads.  These are not minor roads either, but state highways.

As a first stage of repair some coarse stone has been spread.  The log just in front of the cycle is there to make the traffic divert  and drive on just one side of the road.

At this point some new drainage sections were being constructed across the roads.  Note the barriers to protect the workers.  ( no there aren't any!)

We followed that bus for a while through all the dust created by the works.  Not easy conditions for the drivers.
