Corbett National Park and Tiger Reserve

The park which covers over 1300 sq km (500 sq miles) has the greatest ratio of Tigers (to land area) of any Park in India, however that does not make spotting one any easier.  There are strict restrictions on entering the park and you have to go with a guide.  Jeep safaris take place once in the morning and once in the afternoon.  It is also possible to take elephant rides around the park, which probably offer a higher chance of spotting a tiger.   The Park had only just re-opened after the monsoon break.  It remains shut from July through to November.

At the start of the safaris the jeeps first head to a central area with an information centre and a small souvenir shop.  Here there was a pause while the guides registered at the office and probably decided which routes they were taking because after that stop we rarely saw many other of the jeeps except in passing.

At this point we had just entered that park and were headed for the office area

The area where we waited for registration.  There was also a guest house there, though it was very early in the season and had not opened yet.
