The skill of the stone carvers at Mamallapuram has not been lost over the years and many shops and roadside areas were filled with stones, partial and complete carvings and men working on new pieces.
Many of these items were very large and may have been intended for gardens and large properties.
We
had visited this shop and brought a few small items. They were
specialising in pieces for the tourist trade.
